NASCAR fines Stewart for cursing on T.V.
After a remarkable win, Tony Stewart was in for a bad news, he was fined $25,000 and docked 25 points for cursing on T.V. NASCAR imposed the fine for cursing during the after race television interview at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway- his hometown race track, where he had just scored his second win in three years.
“This one’s for every one of those fans in the stands who pull for me every week and take all the (expletive) from everybody else,” he said accepting the adoration of the crowd of orange-clad fans to whom he dedicated this win.
NASCAR also docked Joe Gibbs – car owner 25 points, for his driver’s misconduct. According to sources NASCAR’s representative said the language was inappropriate and detrimental to stock car racing. The first ever person penalized for cursing on TV was crew chief Chad Knaus, this incident had set a precedent in NASCAR after race interview etiquettes and penalizing for cursing during a TV interview has since become a strictly followed rule.
Luckily for Stewart, the penalty does not hurt his standings. He is currently fifth among the season leaders and he keeps his place even after the 25 point deduction.
However, the 25 point deduction brings him far too close to Carl Edwards for comfort. Edwards is now just 17 points far from taking his place. The Sep 8 race in Richmond will decide the top 12 drivers who’ll take their cars in the championship race.
Fans who are apparently angry over the fine were heard saying what would happen if the officials were dealing with drivers from the Bobby Allison era. While most of the fans thought it was a stupid thing to get fined over most of them were also of the opinion that Stewart could have been let off with a warning.
