Kurt Busch is back in the NASCAR cup chase with a win at Pocono

It was Busch all the way, from the start of the race till the end there was no one who could have thought there could be another winner on Sunday. His dominance was visible at the end of the race with an unbelievable lead lap count of 175 out of a total of 200.

“It’s been 50-something races and that was a tough burden,” Busch said. He snapped his skid of 51 winless races with a dominating win, just a day after the Las Vegas, Nevada born driver turned 29 he also made it into the final top 12 with a coincidental 29 point lead over his nearest rival. The only scare for him during the race was when he fell to the ninth position after the restart on 143rd lap but quickly made up for the lost ground and took the lead from Earnhardt with 47 laps to go.

Busch shattered the previous laps led record at Pocono giving himself the perfect birthday gift. He had qualified in 2005 and 2005 but missed the last season after he was docked 100 points for reckless driving which saw him drop to number 17 in the standings. Now he is back in business with a 29 point lead over Dale Earnhardt Jr. which was a 13 point deficit before the race. “The big picture is we’ve got a few more races to go until Richmond,” Busch said.

If the 2004 series champion needs to stay in the Richmond pursuit he has a tough job at hand. However, going by his current form and performance in previous races it doesn’t look like he won’t be able to score at least three top 10 positions in four races. Earnhardt was second and Denny Hamlin finished third. Last two race winner Tony Stewart finished sixth.
