No 9 finally smiles
Kasey Kahne was congratulated by George Gillett Jr, for his achievement of finishing second on Saturday night’s Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Smiles were abundant in the Gillett Evernham Motorsports camp on Saturday night, due to kahne finishing his first top five finish in this season’s 24th race in his Dodge No 9
The first NASCAR race was lucky for the new majority owner of Gillett Evernham Motorsports who was seen sporting a huge grin. It has not even been three weeks that he signed the papers for this deal and this victory just seems welcoming to the new entrants by the name of “sportsman George Gillett.”
Russia was the country Gillett woke up in, while on a salmon Fishing Expedition in the Atlantic with his three sons, after which the sporty man flew to England to watch a win of Liverpool Football Club against a Barclays Premier League match, and finally the “sportsman” came to Tennessee at about 6 p.m.
“The fishing was fabulous; the team won the match 2-0, so this has been a good weekend,” Gillett said after greeting Evernham and Kahne in the post-race hubbub on pit road. “We had a wonderful experience, so all-in-all it was just a great week — and weekend — just excellent.”
Looking like a kid in a toy store Gillett, congratulated Kahne for his amazing Saturday night win and also for the victory won in Food City 250 Busch Series race on Friday
“Good to see you — nice going,” Gillett told Kahne as he shook his hand. “I’m proud of you. What a weekend.”
Reminiscing and taking about why he entered the arena Gillett said “It’s great,” “Because last year, when our teams were competitive all season long, that was a lot more fun.”
“It feels good [because] he can’t make it to a lot of them,” Kahne said, matching Gillett’s grin when asked about his owner’s itinerary getting to Bristol. “He wanted to be here, I guess.”
Kahne said
“It feels good. I think it will feel a lot better when I can think about it and sit back,”. “To run well — you know you go into a season and you think you’re going to run well [and then] you don’t. So heck yeah, I’m gaining confidence. That’s a big weekend for us. It felt good to have a strong weekend, to run good in the McDonald’s car for the first time and also win the Busch race night.
