Hornaday first to win

In the Craftsman truck series championship duel, on Saturday in loudon N.H, Ron Hornaday was blessed with victory and earned some space for breathingThis was the fourth victory for him of this season and the 33rd victory of his career. Giving no challenges per say, on the 1.058 mile international speedway oval, at New Hampshire, as the series champion for two times was leading in 174 of the 200 laps.

Hornaday and Skinner were starting on the front row, with the rain playing the part of washing out the Qualifying this earlier Saturday and the field was set by the points.

With Erik Darnell, Skinner and the current champion of this series Todd Bodine battling for position behind him, Hornaday at first dominated the race but later turned it to a runway. The length of the main straightaway was what it took for Hornaday to beat Darnell. The time recorded was 4.211 seconds.

The third in the race was Skinner who was behind Hornaday by 4 points and had 29 behind him even with seen events still to go.

The lowest that Horaday has gone is the 11th position in the 18 races that were there in this season. The past five races have a track record of two wins, two second positions and a sixth place. “We’ve got to do it,” he said. “If we don’t, Skinner will”.

“This is the same truck we finished second with three times and we finally got a win,” added Hornaday, who drives a Chevrolet for Kevin and DeLana Harvick. “It was just unbelievable.”

Skinner agreed.

“We just flat out got our butts whipped [Saturday],” Skinner said. “Ronnie put on a clinic. It was a good race — a little boring. That No. 33 led too much.

“But we’ve got some good races coming up. I don’t think I’d start fitting the crown yet.”
