Edwards hangs on to win wreck-filled race at Dover
Carl Edwards has shown himself to be full of grit and determination when he went on to win his first Chase race in the last two seasons and also jump five points in the race for the Chase for the championship standings and all this was done on the Race track full of smoke and wrecks and cars skidding all around.A NASCAR penalty is however not a distant possibility and he might just be fined for it.
The rear right fender was found to be too low in the post race inspection. In a similar incident in July in New Hampshire, the penalty was 25 points for the driver and $25000 fine for the crew chief in both the cases.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Potson has given the statement that there is no foul play and that there was no prima face evidence of tampering done intentionally.
“This is a height violation. It is not one where we believe the structure of the body has been manipulated,” he said.
The late lead that Edwards had has been beneficial and ended up in saving him a massive wreck that has taken out quite a few Chase contenders like Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson as well as some other drivers in the race track of 400 miles made in concrete.
“We’ve got to keep running like we’ve been running,” Edwards said in Victory Lane. “It’s a big win. A lot of guys had bad luck [Sunday].”
“It was a crazy day at Dover and somehow we came out of it with the points lead,” Gordon said.
After the second race, in the 10 race Chase, the difference between the leaders were minute, which had led to a very ferocious fight among them to lead and for the positions in the ascending order.
“We were in a good spot to win the race and we were in a good spot to gain some points for the championship,” Kenseth said.
