Carpentier to drive in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2008
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Patrick Carpentier has joined the ever growing league of star drivers from other championship transferring to NASCAR for the next season. Franchitti had moved to Chip Ganassi last week only to join the likes of Montoya and Sorenson. Carpentier, the former Champ Car star will be seen driving the number 10 Dodge for Gillett Evernham.
“We are excited to add Patrick Carpentier to our organization for 2008,” co-owner George Gillett said. “Patrick has shown tremendous talent in every series he has driven throughout his career and has a bright future in NASCAR.
“We are committed to giving Patrick the best resources and opportunities available to make this transition and we look forward to a great deal of success together both on and off the track.”
Scott Riggs, the current driver will be leaving to drive for the Haas CNC Racing next season which made the spot available for Carpentier to move in the team that was originally founded by Ray Evernham who had transferred majority ownership to the Gillett family early this year.
The Gillett family also owns the Montreal Canadiens and is the co owner of the top favorite English Club Liverpool.
