Montoyas to Host Charity Gala

images1.jpgRacer Juan Montoya and his wife, Connie, are hosting a one of a kind charity gala like none other in the NASCAR community. BELIVE 2007, the highly anticipated event, will be held in the art district of Miami at Karu & Y restaurant. The guest list boasts of several big names from both within and outside the NASCAR fraternity. NASCAR drivers and hundreds of other celebrities are expected to show up for the event. The proceedings are going to include a silent auction and entertainment by 12-time Latin Grammy winner Juanes — himself a native of Colombia.
Montoya gives most of the credit for the event’s incarnation to his wife, Connie, who wanted to inform people about the situation in Columbia. The couple has been planning continuously to raise funds for this third world country. Connie highlighted the problems plaguing Columbia.

“There is a big upper and bigger lower class but the middle class is not that strong,” she said. “There is not a lot of work for people. Colombia has been fighting a war for the last 40 years so a lot of companies have left the country. There is a lot of unemployment.”

The Montoyas aim to secure several charities from this event and many institutions are involved in BELIVE 2007 with them.

“There are six different charities that this will support,” said Connie. “The money we raise we will divide between the six foundations. These six non-profits have formed an alliance so that we can now start projects together. We want to do this more in the future so that we can have a bigger impact in all areas: sport, education and nutrition — all aspects the basic needs a person should have to live a normal life.
