This was his sixth win of the season which brings him closer to the fifth NEXTEL cup title. He is now 68 points ahead of team mate Jimmie Johnson, the win has also helped him widen the points gap between the two and further his claim on the title.
“Just an incredible day for the team,” Gordon said. “We needed to get to the finish. We had such a hard time getting to the finish, whether we were wrecking or having a mechanical problem.”

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) – with the win at Talladega Superspeedway Gordon is now the all time leader on restrictor-plate tracks. In true Hollywood style, Gordon passed his team mate in the very last lap to claim the victory.
This victory takes him past the legendary late Dale Earnhardt and confirmed his status of a legend in the making, however, Dale Earnhardt wasn’t comfortable on receiving the title of NASCAR’s best plate racer.
“I’m blown away by that, to me (Earnhardt) was the man on restrictor plates,” Gordon said. “I watched him do things and I knew they were cheating or something in his carburetor, and then I maybe pulled a couple of those moves throughout Read more »

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Juan Pablo Montoya snagged his ride last year when Dario Franchitti tried to make into the stock cars racing, another year at the open wheel racing and another series championship in his name and an Indianapolis 500 victory as well to his credit, this time round when Chip Ganassi called again with a new offer Frachitti was up for the taking as he had nothing to prove and there was probably nothing else he could have achieved at the IndyCar series.
“We had conversations last year, and one of the options going into the ‘07 season was NASCAR,” Franchitti said in a Wednesday telephone interview. “Then with Juan coming along, it didn’t work out. And looking back, I am really happy it didn’t work out. To win the Indianapolis 500 this year, and then the open-wheel title in my last race, it was a great Read more »

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) – there was just a 28 point difference in the standings between six of this year’s chase drivers when they took off, but against all expectations there were no thrilling or memorable moments noted witnessing drivers fighting each other for that extra point and at the end of the race six or more chase drivers managed 29th or worse.
The race was brought to an abrupt end as darkness covered the horizon faster than expected and under caution there was only one driver who was sure of his win at the Kansas Speedway this Sunday and that was Greg Biffle.
“Let me tell you what, he didn’t win the race,” said fifth-place finisher Jeff Gordon. “Clint Bowyer is the winner of this race in my opinion, no offense to Greg Biffle.” Read more »

The pit wall was lined with writers and photographers hoping to catch the glimpse of the peace summit which was about to start. The cars of the two drivers Denny Hamlin and Kyle Petty, who were attacking each other on the track and off the track the whole of the previous week, were lined up in a nose to tail fashion in a very convenient way in the qualifying line Friday at Kansas Speedway, this offering the much awaited perfect reconciliation opportunity between the two.
But nothing happened just it didn’t need to.
“My rule is, Sunday night at midnight, I stop thinking about the previous week,” Petty said right after his qualifying lap. “You spend too much time thinking about last week’s race, you’ll drive yourself crazy.” Read more »
